Four metro-area farmers markets and what to expect for market season

 
 

With the hopes that the last frosty days in central Oklahoma have passed, area farmers markets are preparing for their first market days of the season.

Whether you live in or around the downtown core, in Moore or Norman or in Edmond, there are farmers market options ready to welcome residents back for the warmer months. All of the markets feature a variety of vendors with products, including produce, meats, baked goods, beverages, honey, specialty foods and crafted goods to choose from.

Here's what you need to know about four of the areas local markets, including locations, days and times, vendors, and more.

Farmers Market at Scissortail Park, Oklahoma City Boulevard and S Robinson Avenue

Entering its fifth market season, the Farmers Market at Scissortail Park kicks off Saturday, April 6, and takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City. The market is a 100% Oklahoma producer-only market and features

Market dates and times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from April through October, except April 27; 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays biweekly from May 15 through Sept. 18 (located in the lower park Hill Pavilion).

Norman Farm Market, 210 James Garner

Located at The Well in Norman, this market moved from the Cleveland County Fairgrounds and is organized by the Cleveland County Health Department. The market has been in operation for more than 40 years and runs year round, but the spring season, which opens an hour earlier at 8 a.m., is set to kick off Saturday.

Market dates and times: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays from April 9 through July 30. From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays Aug. 6 through Oct. 29.

Moore Farm Market, 700 S Broadway

The sister to the Norman Farm Market and also run by the Cleveland County Health Department, the Moore market has a shorter season, running from May to September, but still offers a wide variety of goods.

Market dates and times: 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from May 4 to Sep. 21.

Edmond Farmers Market, 26 W First St.

Located adjacent to the Railyard development in Edmond, the Edmond Farmers market is also a 100% Oklahoma grown, made and manufactured market. The 2024 season will mark the 36th year that the city has been a location for local farmers and makers to bring their goods to residents.

Market dates and times: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from April 20 through Nov. 2, except May 4.
