Meet Leland + Addy Schmoker

Backcountry Perspective gets its name from our desire to shed a whole new light on the beauty of the nature that surrounds us. In an increasingly developed world, we tend to forget the beauty of the natural world and while an urban environment has its pros, we feel that it is overall dull and gloomy and know that we aren't alone in this feeling. So we started our company as a means to use our passion to bring some light into peoples' homes, offices, and life in general! Our aim is to take that "perspective" and bring it to you. To really capture the beauty and adventure of one fleeting moment in the backcountry and present it in a simple, beautiful way that will bring a lifetime of joy and remind you of the beauty that can be found on this planet that we all call home. We want our images to brighten a gloomy day, bring a sense of calm in the midst of chaos, and lift spirits in a downturn, and we hope that you will find that in our work!

Who/What are your biggest influences?

Jimmy Chin would definitely be our biggest inspiration. There are tons of other amazing landscape photographers that inspire us, but Jimmy’s work really stands out.

What is your dream project?

One of our biggest projects is Iceland. We are certainly blessed to live in the beauty Colorado has to offer, but we are really excited about going to and photographing Iceland. It just seems like such an otherworldly landscape out there!

What are your thoughts about your city's creative scene for artists, designers, crafters, makers, and/or small businesses?

Colorado in general has an awesome creative scene going on. It seems that most cities/towns in this state really embrace the local artists from photographer to sculptors and even craft brewers! We like that a lot and feel that it gives each town its own unique vibe, which certainly makes exploring the state interesting.

f you had a choice between two superpowers, being invisible or flying, which would you choose?

Flying for sure. Can’t beat a bird’s eye view!
