Meet Jessica

My work initially started out as a collection of children’s paintings inspired by my sketchbooks from when I was young. Now, it has become much more than just art for children. I incorporated the whimsy and playfulness of my childhood art with stylized details, in order to elevate my paintings and appeal to an audience of all ages. This has become a series of work I call Baby Jess. Baby Jess is art for the young at heart. Art that is full of whimsy, magical creatures and dreamworlds. Art that knows no age.

My paintings are heavily inspired by both the natural and celestial worlds. Light, color and movement are the key components of my work that I utilize to create dream-like landscapes that are slightly surreal. I start all my paintings with the background first. I usually paint a sky or vivid color that is ombre to give the sense that there is a light source and create a glowing feel. The moon, one of my biggest inspirations since I was young, is painted in these luminescent skies in varying colors and sizes. I layer botanical inspired elements on top that fluctuate in vibrancy, creating a range of details that give depth to the composition and invite the viewer in. I paint a little creature in this landscape to add an element of playfulness that is heartwarming and fun. Then, I finish each piece with gold embellishments to imbue each painting with magical details.

How did your business come to exist?

Baby Jess came to exist back in early 2019 while living in Chicago. I was doing a lot of abstract art at the time and I was feeling stuck so I decided to do a small collection of paintings inspired by the art I created when I was kid. Then I realized, this was the art that brought me joy and this is what I should be creating, magical dreamworlds. Baby Jess has since grown into a universe of it's own filled with various collections and artworks.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I love to cook, eat, read, go to Denver Botanical Gardens, go to my cycling classes at High Ride and spend time with my family, friends and kittens.

What is the best piece of advice that you ever received?

I think the best piece of advice is actually 2 things and I remind myself of them daily. First, is to just keep going/creating no matter what. Second, is to find joy in what you do, if what you are doing doesn't light you up inside, giving up will be a lot easier.

What is your dream project?

A dream project of mine is to bring the Baby Jess universe into an immersive experience where people can be inside the dreamworlds that I paint. It would a be a floor to ceiling show covered in 2D and 3D art ranging from teeny tiny miniatures to large scale paintings. To enhance the experience even more I would include dreamy lights and magical harp music!
