Meet Cheryl

My passion for drawing and painting began as a child and continues to this day. Living in Colorado, I only need to step outside to find inspiration. I find myself drawn primarily to landscapes, to the beauty and color of nature. Initially trained in oils, something special happened when I picked up pastels. Pastels, for me, span both drawing and painting. The immediacy and directness of approach is what I love, along with having all the colors and values at my fingertips. Simply put, I love to draw and paint, it brings me joy and hopefully to those who see it.

What are you known for?

I'm known for my pastel landscape paintings done in a representational style. I'm especially drawn to skies, water and Colorado rural scenes.

What are you working on right now?

Currently, I'm working on paintings of streams and river banks, trying to get a feel for moving water and translucency. Also, I am increasingly interested in trying to achieve a sketchier and looser look to my work.

 
 

What do you like to do outside of work?

My favorite thing to do when not painting is to be outside walking or hiking. In the winter months I enjoy nordic skiing and snow shoeing. I also love spending time with my two grandsons!

 
 

Where do you find inspiration?

I find my best ideas and inspiration out hiking and exploring throughout Colorado. I like quiet spots along creek beds and evening clouds and skies at dusk. Good art books are also great inspiration.

Do you like to win or hate to lose?

I like to win, for better or worse, I've always been very competitive!
