Meet Dillon

I am a photographer and videographer based in Denver. I describe my art as "A way to experience a sliver in time seldom only seen by me." I try and use my abilities to show the beauty in the simplicity of life. The new endeavor "Art Haus" is a production studio My friend Tomas and I have. We believe our talents can be used to highlight amazing artists and individuals in our communities. Be on the lookout for future interviews!

Learn more about Dillon below!

What are you known for?

I’m best known for my photography. It's honestly my favorite thing to do.

What is your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge right now is making myself focus on my web site, but I know I need to finish it so I have a storefront other than Instagram and Facebook. I need to carve out time and make it a priority, but I would rather paint. I would always rather paint!

What are you working on right now?

I am currently working on a few different projects. Art Haus interviews are a major project at the moment as well as traveling for videography. So staying busy for sure.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part is definitely the freedom and being able to meet people regularly. I haven't had to clock in for over 2 years now. And I can't really see myself doing anything else. That freedom is addicting.

Where do you find inspiration?

My inspiration comes in many different forms. Music and short films or even just chatting with a friend. Art is life and life is art. Don't ever stop creating.

Find Joy on the Trails at Three Mile Creek Trail

Joy on the Trails is a blog series detailing all the incredible hiking trails within an hour of Denver. All the trails featured are accessible to anyone new to hiking, or just wanting to get out without driving for hours into the mountains. I hope you uncover your own joy of hiking and I hope you’re inspired to try a few of my favorite trails. And if you’re so inclined, join me sometime… I’m out there a lot!

Three Mile Creek Trail

My daughter and I stumbled on this trail completely by accident this fall.  We were planning a high altitude hike to Silver Dollar Lake over timberline on Guanella Pass, but when we parked and got our packs on, I started having a really fast heart rate and started feeling nauseous.  This is altitude sickness!  Don’t ever attempt to hike with altitude sickness - and if you are hiking and have these symptoms, immediately get to lower ground. I can not stress this enough - your brain will start to play tricks on you and it can be very dangerous.

Anyway, my super cool kid didn’t make me feel bad because I trained her to be a good human, and we headed down the other side of the pass knowing we’d find something lower. And sure enough, just a few miles from Grant, CO we found Three Mile Creek trailhead.  We didn’t have cell service so we couldn’t check out any details, but we decided to just head out and see what we would find.

This trail is pretty flat, mostly in the woods, and completely gorgeous!  We hiked about three miles in and the trail opened up to the most gorgeous view of Mt Logan in the distance and I grabbed a pic of my daughter loving life.  The woods were full of mushrooms, moss and other leafy treasures, and we even found wild strawberries to snack on.

A week or so later, I brought my hubby back here to see the leaves changing and it was a real treat.  The forest had dried up, and the aspens were magical.  This trail links with miles of forest land and many people backpack in. You need to sign up on a registry before entering forest land, but there’s no fee.

I am so lucky to have such fantastic hiking buddies in my family and we found a real treasure. I hope you have a chance to check it out!

Local Real Estate

If you’re looking for a home just outside the city, but a reasonable drive to still feel connected to Denver, the areas between Conifer/Indian Hills, and Grant are fantastic. You’ll be about an hour from town, you can have acreage, and most of the houses are really cute!  $650k will get you something totally fantastic.  You will need plenty of resources and a long due diligence period when buying in this area and I absolutely love selling homes here.

6 Cheap Places You Can Buy a Home Right Now

joshua-breaux-pCDFsYtRszc-unsplash.jpg

As another record year for real estate comes to a close, many people are still hunting for their dream home.

And with the rise in remote work, many people are searching for a new place outside their existing zip code. Since median home prices have continued to rise over the past two years (and even hit an astonishing high of $350,300 in May) we put together a list of cities around the country where the average cost of a home remains under $300,000. Here are six cheap(ish) places to buy a home right now.

Little Rock, Arkansas

Median home value: $171,459

According to Zillow, Little Rock homeowners only need to spend an average of 11.4 percent of their income on their mortgage payment, which makes it an affordable market to move into. Homes in the city have seen a 5.3 percent increase since last year, and they are predicted to rise another 9.6 percent, making Little Rock a smart investment when it comes to real estate.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Median home value: $204,024

While the median price of homes in Baton Rouge went up by 6 percent in 2021, it’s still lower than the national average, coming in just under $200,000. Homeowners in Baton Rouge will also get to keep more of their paycheck, since Zillow says most people only need to spend about 12.4 percent of their earnings on their mortgage payment. All of those things have turned Baton Rouge into an appealing market, with 14.4 percent more homes being sold in 2020 than in 2019.

Louisville, Kentucky

Median home value: $211,827

Here homeowners only need to spend 12.9 percent of their income on their mortgage payment, making Louisville an inexpensive place to call home. And with public schools ranking slightly higher than the national average, people looking to call the Kentucky hub home need to move fast. Home sales are reportedly up 13 percent from last year, with many properties receiving multiple offers.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Median home value: $171,910

Considering it only costs $1.96 to buy a gallon of milk, homeowners will enjoy a lower cost of living when they opt to buy in Oklahoma City. In fact, the city’s cost of living is estimated to be 14.6 percent below the national average. Like most places, it’s still a seller’s market in Oklahoma City, with the median time a property sits on the market hovering around 42 days.

St. Louis, Missouri

Median home value: $161,038

With a population of around 300,000, homeowners in St. Louis will get some big city perks with a suburban price tag. The average home price comes in under $200,000, far below the current national average of $303,000. The cost of living also remains low here at 12.6 percent below the US average. Because homes sell fast, often in under a week, they tend to go for more than asking (7 percent more in most cases). Which means if you want to buy in St. Louis, you need to be fast.

Tampa, Florida

Median home value: $259,155

The Sunshine State has a lot to offer prospective homeowners, with a cost of living 9.1 percent below the national average. While those who work and live in the city of Tampa may have lower salaries than average (they actually tend to trend about 15 percent lower than the national average) Tampa homeowners don’t have to pay income tax — meaning residents get to keep more of their paycheck. Of course, that could be why nobody is moving out of the city. Tampa’s inventory of homes for sale is down by almost 68 percent over the last year.
